Pharmacology

The drug with a layered mesh structure is characterized by a low proportion of aluminum and magnesium in the composition. It quickly neutralizes the acidic effect of gastric juice . In this case, excessive alkalization of the stomach contents does not occur.

The composition allows you to maintain an optimal pH level (3-5) for a prolonged time (up to 1.5 hours). The tablets also activate the natural protective functions of the gastrointestinal tract from negative factors.

Taking Talcid does not affect the level of aluminum and magnesium in the blood, provided the kidneys are functioning. The ions do not penetrate bone tissue and do not affect the nervous system.

Release form and composition

Talcid is produced by the German pharmaceutical company BAYER AG exclusively in the form of chewable tablets. These are flat, round-shaped tablets with beveled edges. They are distinguished by their white color and light mint aroma.

One tablet contains the active ingredient - hydrotalcite (500 mg) and auxiliary components:

  • corn starch;
  • mannitol;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • sodium saccharinate;
  • flavors (banana and mint).

The international name of the drug from its active substance is Hydrotalcite (ATX code A02AD04).

On pharmacy shelves Taltsid is presented in two types of packaging:

  • cardboard box with two blisters of 10 pcs.;
  • cardboard box with five blisters of 10 pcs.

The packaging contains instructions for use from the manufacturer. The drug is dispensed without a prescription form.

Mode of application

The tablets are easy to chew, but you still need to take them with a small amount of water. Reception does not depend on the meal schedule if we are talking about a state of high acidity. In other cases - 2 hours after a meal.

The recommended dosage for ulcers and inflammation is 2 tablets three times a day after meals and before bedtime. The individual dosage and duration of therapy should be determined by the doctor.

It is not recommended to simultaneously consume Talcid and drinks containing acid (wine and juices). During the course of treatment, you should follow the recommended diet to reduce the effect of provoking factors. Afterwards, a gastroenterological examination is prescribed. In most untreated cases, the course gives a positive clinical result.

Compatibility with other drugs

Hydrotalcite reduces the effectiveness of some medications because it affects their absorption:

  • tetracycline antibiotics;
  • ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin;
  • anticoagulants (coumarin);
  • cimetidine;
  • iron supplements;
  • digoxin;
  • chenodeoxycholic acid.

If you have to combine Talcid with the above remedies, you should maintain a time interval between them - at least 2 hours.

What are antacid drugs?

The drug Talcid refers to antacid drugs, which are intended for the relief of symptoms and subsequent treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal diseases by neutralizing hydrochloric acid, which is part of the gastric juice.

Groups of antacid drugs:

  • absorbable
  • non-absorbable

Absorbable antacids

These include: sodium bicarbonate, magnesium oxide, Rennie's mixture, Bourget's mixture, Tums mixture, magnesium carbonate basic and calcium carbonate basic.

All of them enter into a direct neutralization reaction with hydrochloric acid in the lumen of the stomach. Their advantage is their quick effect. However, there is a drawback here - the effect of absorbed antacids does not last long.
