Mezim forte, tablets, 80 pcs.

For indigestion, Mezim can be given to children over one year of age. Depending on the age and body weight of the child, the dose is selected individually. The instructions help determine the dosage for young children. Mezim is able to eliminate the symptoms of dysbiosis, gastritis, enteritis and chronic pancreatitis.

Mezim is an enzyme preparation. Helps improve digestion function, replenishes the lack of pancreatic enzymes.

The tablets are available in pharmacies without a prescription. The cost varies depending on the concentration of enzymes in 1 tablet. Sold in contour packaging. Each of them contains 10 tablets. They are covered with a film shell that dissolves only in the intestines.

Any analogue of the drug is used to treat children just as successfully. These include: Pangrol, Creon, Ermital, Motillium. Each of them is used as prescribed by a doctor. Mezim has a minimum of side effects.

What is Mezim?

Mezim is a drug that is used to improve digestion. Its active ingredient is pancreatin (a complex of pig pancreatic enzymes that helps break down compounds in the digestive system).

Pancreatin is used to replace digestive enzymes when the body does not have enough of its own.

Mezim has two dosage forms:

  • The tablets are coated with a coating that is resistant to the action of gastric juice, which protects the drug from premature activation of enzymes. This shell begins to dissolve only in a neutral or alkaline environment.
  • Delayed-release capsules that have a gastrosoluble coating. Subsequently, the contents of the capsule (the so-called mini-tablets) are evenly mixed with the contents of the stomach. Only after reaching the target - the small intestine - do the mini-tablets release enzymes.

What do you need to know before you start taking Mezim?

Indications for taking Mezim are:

  • cystic fibrosis (hereditary disease of the pancreas);
  • pancreatitis;
  • pancreas cancer;
  • people who have had surgery to remove all or part of the pancreas or stomach;
  • treatment of steatoria (a condition in which large amounts of fat are excreted in feces);
  • lack of pancreatic enzymes in newborns, to improve digestion.

To make sure Mezim is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have any of the following contraindications :

  • allergy to the active substance, auxiliary components, pig meat;
  • gout;
  • asthma;
  • acute pancreatitis or relapse of chronic pancreatitis;
  • kidney diseases;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Instructions for use

Mezim should be taken immediately after or during meals. It is better not to chew the medicine. In this case, the protective shell of the tablet will be destroyed, and most of the enzymes will not reach the intestines. It’s better to drink it with water (warm, but not hot).

Important! It is strictly forbidden to take the medicine with juice or tea.

The instructions indicate the correct use of the tablets. You can take the tablets while sitting or standing. It is not recommended to lie down for 10-15 minutes after taking the medicine. Otherwise, the tablet will remain in the esophagus or stomach, and there will be no effect.

Dosage

Mezim can be given to a child only if the dosage is limited. Unlike adults, who need to take 1-3 tablets every day 3-4 times, the children's dosage is calculated as follows:

  • If a child is under 12 years old, he should be given less than 1.5 thousand IU per 1 kg of weight;
  • After 12 years, children can increase the dose to 2 thousand IU per kg.

If the child is prescribed one or more medications, the interval between taking different tablets should be more than 15 minutes.

The instructions for small children are slightly different. Mezim Forte is best given in the following quantities:

  • Children from one year to 7 years: 1 tablet 2-3 times a day;
  • After 7 years, it is recommended to take 1-2 tablets every day, 2-3 times;
  • From 12 to 18 years of age, Mezim Forte should take up to 2 thousand IU of lipase per kg of body weight.

Instructions for use for young children are adjusted by a doctor. He prescribes an individual treatment regimen.

How to take Mezim?

Use exactly as directed on the label or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.

Take Mezim orally (by mouth) during a meal or snack with a glass of water.

Since medications do not affect the reaction rate, you can operate a car or other mechanisms.

Note!

Do not crush, chew or split the tablet in half, as the active enzymes in the composition may damage the oral mucosa, causing ulcers and reducing the effectiveness of the drug. The tablet must be swallowed whole.

If you are unable to swallow time-release capsules whole, then open them and mix the contents with a small amount of soft, acidic food such as applesauce.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

There is insufficient data on the effect of the drug on pregnancy, embryonic/fetal development, childbirth or lactation. In this regard, Mezim should not be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding, except in cases where the use of Mezim is absolutely necessary and the benefit to the mother outweighs the likely risk to the child.

pharmachologic effect

Pharmacotherapeutic group: digestive enzyme agent

ATX code: A09AA02

Pharmacological properties

Pancreatin is a powder made from porcine pancreas.

Pancreatic enzymes (lipase, amylase, protease) have a proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic effect and promote the breakdown of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, improve the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), thus normalizing digestive processes. It is assumed that active trypsin inhibits stimulated pancreatic secretion in the upper part of the small intestine by feedback. The analgesic effect of pancreatin preparations, described in some cases, is associated with this effect. Pancreatic enzymes are not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, they are excreted through the intestines, most of them are denatured under the influence of digestive juices.

Indications

  • Violations of the enzymatic (exocrine) function of the pancreas in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract accompanied by digestive disorders.
  • To improve food digestion in patients with normal gastrointestinal function with dietary errors.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

There are no data on the use of pancreatin during pregnancy and breastfeeding. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the prescription of pancreatin by the attending physician is possible only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus or child.

Recommendations for use

Contraindications

  • hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
  • acute pancreatitis or exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis. However, it is possible to use it in the phase of a fading exacerbation when expanding the diet, if there are signs of digestive disorders;
  • children up to 3 years of age (for this dosage form).

Side effects

Possible side effects are listed below in descending frequency of occurrence: very common (≥ 1/10), common (≥ 1/100, < 1/10), uncommon (≥ 1/1000, < 1/100), rare (≥ 1/10) 10000, <1/1000), very rare (<1/10000), frequency unknown (cannot be estimated from available data).

Immune system disorders Very rare: immediate allergic reactions. Frequency unknown: allergic reactions to the components of the drug are possible (see section “Composition”).

Gastrointestinal disorders Very rare: gastrointestinal hypersensitivity (eg, diarrhea, epigastric discomfort, nausea).

Interaction

The absorption of folic acid may be reduced, which may require additional intake when used simultaneously with pancreatin. The effect of hypoglycemic agents for oral administration (acarbose, miglitol) may be reduced when used simultaneously with drugs containing digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates (for example, amylase).

How to take, course of administration and dosage

The dose of Mezim® forte is determined individually depending on the degree of digestive disturbance.

Adults: 1 - 2 tablets orally before meals, without chewing and with water (the effectiveness of Mezim® forte may decrease when chewed, and pancreatic enzymes, when released, may irritate the oral mucosa).

If necessary, take another 2-4 tablets with meals.

In cases where higher doses of pancreatin are required, a doctor's consultation is necessary to prescribe a higher dosage depending on the symptoms (for example, reducing the severity of steatorrhea, abdominal pain).

The duration of treatment can vary from several days (in case of indigestion due to an error in diet) to several months and even years (if constant replacement therapy is necessary).

In children, the drug is used as prescribed by a doctor.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported.
