The traditional Russian drink jelly for pancreatitis can be an excellent remedy for restoring the impaired function of the digestive system. However, not all of its types are beneficial, so you should know in which cases this type of food can be added to the patient’s diet, and when it is better to exclude it.
An example is the Izotov drink, well known among nutritionists, which is made from oatmeal. Thanks to the substances included in its composition, it has a beneficial effect on the patient’s digestive tract, helping to normalize its functioning. In cases where the drink is made from sour fruits, its use should be avoided, since there is a high risk that its use will lead to a deterioration in the patient’s condition. Let's consider what useful properties it has.
Benefits of oats for the pancreas
Everything ingenious, as we know, is simple. In this case, we will talk about how oats help. This cereal has long been used to treat the pancreas due to its cleansing and enveloping properties. The plant is a natural healer and an excellent absorbent; it is recommended for various ailments, as well as for those wishing to lose weight. The fodder crop is held in high esteem by traditional healers; it is indispensable in the fight against inflammation. Gently cleanses the intestines, removes toxins, heavy metals and toxic substances accumulated over many years.
Treatment of the pancreas and pancreatitis with oats gives positive results. This is explained by the presence in the grains of valuable lipotropic components and vital enzymes that promote better absorption of nutrients. Cereals are rich in starchy and mineral substances, amino acids and vitamins necessary for the normal functioning of each organ.
Herbal medicines strengthen the immune system, eliminate inflammation, and regulate metabolism. No wonder our ancestors considered oat infusions to be the elixir of life. The versatility of the cereal lies in the fact that it heals several systems at the same time (cardiac, digestive and nervous).
Pros and cons of oat drink
To the question of whether it is possible to eat oatmeal jelly if you have pancreatitis, all experts answer unequivocally. In their general opinion, it is simply necessary to consume such a dish at a time when planned treatment of pancreatitis is being carried out, or during the period of treatment of pathology. This healing food has a huge number of beneficial properties:
- effectively improves immunity;
- slows down the aging process in the human body;
- improves metabolism;
- cleanses the body of toxins accumulated in it, and also promotes the removal of toxins from the digestive organs and the resorption of cholesterol plaques formed in the blood vessels;
- quickly relieves negative symptoms that always accompany diseases of the digestive system;
- eliminates foci of inflammatory processes and promotes rapid healing of ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract.
The high effectiveness of oat jelly is due to the rich composition of this dish. It contains all the micro- and macroelements necessary for human life (magnesium, fluorine, potassium, iron), amino acids and vitamin groups. This oatmeal also contains fiber and probiotics, which help normalize the functioning of the digestive system.
This healing dish has one amazing feature, which is the complete absence of contraindications (except for those people who have been identified as individual intolerant to oats). But still, you should not abuse such jelly, since all therapeutic effects on the body should be provided in moderation.
Important clarifications
- To make jelly, it is better not to use a metal container, since the metal reacts with the components of the drink and, as a result, the beneficial properties of the jelly are impaired.
- It is also not recommended to use plastic containers for preparing the drink and storing the concentrate. During fermentation, plastic can release harmful toxins that not only affect the taste of the final product, but also its beneficial properties. Therefore, it is best to use glass containers for making and storing jelly.
Kissel in the acute stage and period of remission of pancreatitis
The viscous jelly-like drink is one of the few products that is present in the patient’s diet at all stages of the disease. The only exception is those 2-3 days of exacerbation, during which the inflammatory process is at its peak. People with acute pancreatitis are supposed to fast for several days. This is necessary to relieve the load on the pancreas and thus ensure complete rest for it. In the absence of food, the enzymatic activity of the organ stops and the pancreas begins to rest, otherwise, if medical recommendations are ignored, pancreatic secretion increases, as a result of which the process of self-digestion of the organ only worsens.
Immediately after this short period, jelly can be added to the permitted water and herbal infusions. Like any other product, it must be administered extremely carefully, a few tablespoons at a time. If the body reacts normally and phenomena such as pain, nausea or diarrhea do not occur, the volume of the drink can be gradually increased. Since in the first week after the crisis the body is severely wounded, and the pancreas is just beginning the process of its recovery, you should not rush to satisfy your gastronomic desires. You will have to wait a while with the most delicious berry or fruit jelly; instead, it is preferable to start with making milk or oatmeal jelly. Under no circumstances should you use store-bought jelly: their chemical additives and dyes are unlikely to be useful in the treatment of pancreatitis.
Some relaxation is allowed with the onset of a period of stable remission. As long as you maintain good health, you can make adjustments to your diet that will help diversify your daily menu. And first of all, you can start with jelly. There are many recipes that make the drink the same in consistency, but completely different in taste. So, jelly can be milk, berry, oat, fruit, flax, sea buckthorn, pumpkin, and also with the addition of honey or raisins. In whatever form it is presented, it should always be served warm: excessively high temperatures are undesirable both for a healthy person and for people suffering from inflammation of the pancreas. In addition, you should not overdo it with the volume of the drink: one serving should be no more than 200 ml. If you really want to please yourself with such a drink, it is better to drink it repeatedly, several times a day, but not more than the specified amount at a time.
For acute pancreatitis
Liquid and semi-liquid oatmeal jelly in water without any additives can be consumed from the 3rd day after the attack of the disease.
For chronic pancreatitis
In case of chronic pancreatitis, jelly can (and should!) be consumed daily, diversifying its taste with berries, dried fruits, honey or jam. Kissel should be eaten warm (cold or hot is not allowed), freshly prepared. It perfectly replaces the first or second breakfast, or afternoon snack. At least 3 hours should pass between the consumption of oatmeal jelly and the next meal.
It is preferable to consume jelly in the first half of the day, as it has a general tonic effect. But it does not disturb sleep, so if you have pancreatitis, you can eat it at night - especially if you do not tolerate kefir well or feel hungry at night.
Contraindications for use
Oatmeal drink, like all products, has its contraindications for use. It should not be taken by people suffering from cereal intolerance. Otherwise, this product is actively used to treat various ailments associated with abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract. If you neglect the norms for taking jelly prescribed by your doctor, side effects such as skin rash, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and upset stool may occur.

The first thing in such cases is to drink a large amount of water and an absorbent (black or white coal, Enterosgel). For rashes, you also need to take an antihistamine (Citrine, L-Cet, Zodak, etc.). If after 6 hours the symptoms do not disappear, then you should call an ambulance.
Oatmeal jelly is a very healthy drink, which is indicated as an adjuvant in the treatment of many gastrointestinal diseases, including pancreatitis. Preparing it at home is very easy and completely inexpensive. The main thing is to follow the rules of use and dosage.
Izotov's recipe
To obtain jelly according to Dr. Izotov’s recipe, you need to prepare 300 g of Hercules oatmeal (you should not take a product that requires quick cooking - during industrial processing, the flakes lose most of their healing properties), 8 tbsp. l. oat grains, crushed in a coffee grinder, 2 liters of boiled chilled water and 100 ml of kefir (it can be replaced with sour milk).
When preparing a medicinal drink, the following steps should be followed:
- Fermentation. Pour oatmeal, crushed in a coffee grinder, into a 5 ml glass container and pour the prepared water so that it fills ¾ of the jar. Add ground oats and kefir, close the lid or put a rubber glove on the neck of the bottle. After this, you need to wrap the container with a dark cloth, which will protect the contents from light penetration and prevent beneficial microorganisms from dying. The fermentation process should take place in a warm place for 1-2 days.
- Filtration. At this stage, strain the mixture through a sieve, draining the liquid into a separate container. Place the oats in a colander and rinse with a small amount of cold boiled water, collecting the draining liquid in a jar. The resulting filtrates should be left in closed containers for 16 hours. During this time, liquid separation will occur. The upper part, which is oat kvass, must be carefully poured into another bottle, and the white concentrate (sourdough) can be used to prepare jelly.
- Preparation of a medicinal drink. To get a tasty and healthy jelly, 5-7 tbsp. l. The concentrate should be placed in a saucepan and added 2 cups of cold boiled water. Stir the mixture, bring to a boil and cook for another 2 minutes. You can add a little butter or honey to the finished thick jelly.
It is best to prepare and consume oatmeal drink in the morning. Kissel is most useful when warm.
Momotov's recipe
Izotov’s jelly is not the only well-known option for making jelly from oats. Problems with the pancreas forced another medical worker, Momotov, to look for alternative treatment options, as traditional medicine was unable to cure his illness.
To prepare Momotov's jelly for the treatment of pancreas, you will need the following ingredients: oatmeal of different sizes and kefir.
It is best to prepare the drink in a 3 liter jar. It is filled one third with small crushed flakes, then 4 tablespoons (about 60 g) of large flattened oatmeal are added to it. The mixture is poured with 70 ml of biokefir and warm water from the kettle is added so as to completely fill the jar. The resulting mixture is thoroughly mixed using a wooden spoon. The jar is closed with a nylon lid and placed in a warm place to ferment for 48 hours.
It is best to prepare jelly in a 3 liter jar.
When two days have passed, a clear separation of layers is again noticeable in the jar. The contents of the jar are mixed and filtered through a sieve into a clean enamel pan. The strained liquid is a highly acidic mixture. It should be approximately 2 liters. The flakes that remain after filtering are washed again in 2 liters of warm boiled water and also filtered. The result is 2 liters of a mixture with low acidity.
Which acidity is more preferable for each patient is determined by the doctor. The selected water is boiled over low heat until thickened. The finished drink is left to cool to room temperature. The remedy should be taken 3-4 times a day, a few sips.
To decide which way to prepare oatmeal jelly for pancreatitis, you need to compare both methods.
Izotov method | Mamotov method |
Features higher labor costs. It takes a lot of work to prepare the drink. | The method is distinguished by a minimum number of operations. |
A milder taste, slightly reminiscent of cottage cheese. | Slightly sour taste. |
Low cost, necessary components. | Economical drink. |
Patients are advised to try both options to determine which is more suitable for each individual.
In addition to pancreatitis, oatmeal jelly should be included in the menu for gastritis. This drink normalizes high acidity levels and helps to quickly get rid of gastrointestinal diseases and transfer them to a stage of stable and long-term remission. To achieve the maximum effect from taking the drink, it should be consumed in the morning, slightly warm. Due to the simplicity of the recipe and the absence of the need for any special equipment, everyone can use the recipe.
Useful qualities
During an exacerbation, it is very important to reduce the number of enzymes that are involved in self-digestion.
This will help reduce the risk of new symptomatic attacks and alleviate the patient's current condition. A viscous drink copes well with this task.
Kissel is the type of drink that is allowed in case of illness, even in the acute period.
Important! You need to prepare jelly only from natural ingredients. Store-bought powders are prohibited.
Benefit:
- Envelops the walls of the stomach and pancreas, and also helps reduce acidity.
- Due to its nutritional value and saturation, it quickly removes the feeling of hunger.
- Reduces enzyme activity.
