Medications for colon cleansing

Slag-free diet for 3 days

The first stage of standard preparation is changing the nature of your diet. The patient is recommended to eat only easily digestible refined foods. Therefore, 3 days before the study, it is mandatory to follow a slag-free diet.

CanIt is forbidden

Alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, compote, jelly

The evening before the procedure and on the day of the examination itself, you should abstain completely from eating.

If the patient suffers from chronic constipation, then the diet should be started earlier (5-6 days before).

If the colonoscopy is planned from 14:00 to 19:00

On the eve of the study, you can have breakfast, lunch and even a light dinner, but the last meal should be no later than 18:00. It is not recommended to drink carbonated drinks. Dissolve the contents of each Fortrans package in 1 liter of boiled water at room temperature. From 20:00 to 22:00 on the eve of the study, you need to drink 2 liters of solution; over 1 hour, gradually, no more than ¼ cup, drink 1 liter of solution. This is important because if you try to drink it quickly, the cleansing of the intestines will be incomplete (the solution will come out quickly and will not have time to mix sufficiently with the contents of the intestines).

Approximately 1.5–2 hours after taking the first liter of solution, loose stools will appear, which is a natural consequence of taking this drug. Loose stools will periodically repeat several more times until approximately 24:00. After this, as a rule, the urge to bottom stops, and the first stage of preparation is considered complete. Before going to bed the night before, as well as at 7:00 on the day of the study, you can drink up to 300–400 ml of still water or weak tea. On the day of the study, the second stage of preparation is carried out - taking two liters of Fortrans solution from 8:00 to 10:00. After this, there will be loose stools several times again, which, as a rule, stops by 13:00. If the drug is poorly tolerated the day before, it is permissible to replace the solution taken on the day of the study with two cleansing enemas with a volume of 1.5–2.0 liters each at 8:00 and 10:00. Appear for the examination on an empty stomach at the appointed time (as an exception, you can take 200–300 ml of water or tea, but no later than 2 hours before the examination, if anesthesia is not planned).

Important!

There is no need to fast the night before or the day of the test. You can drink broth, tea, still mineral water, juice. In the days of preparation for a colonoscopy, it is possible and even necessary to take the medications you need, with the exception of iron supplements and activated carbon. When preparing patients with diabetes, consultation with a doctor is necessary.

Colon cleansing with drugs

A diet before the study is always required. The next stage of standard preparation is the inclusion of drugs for intestinal lavage, which are a balanced electrolyte solution.

Preparation for colonoscopy with EZICLEN

To properly cleanse the intestines, you need to take two bottles of Esiclene. Before taking, the contents of each bottle must be diluted with water. The patient should drink the resulting diluted solution and two more cups filled to the mark with water or an approved clear liquid (i.e., approximately 1 L) over the next two hours, as described below in the sections

Mode of application

If the time of the prescribed procedure allows, then the split-dose regimen is preferable to the one-time regimen on the eve of the procedure. A single dose regimen on the eve of the procedure is potentially suitable as an alternative regimen.

1 Two-step application mode

Day before the procedure:

The evening before the procedure (for example, at 18.00) you must follow the following instructions:

  • The contents of one bottle of Esiclene should be poured into the supplied measuring cup and diluted with water to the mark (i.e. to a volume of 0.5 l).
  • Over the next two hours, the patient should drink the resulting solution and an additional two measuring glasses of water or clear liquid (i.e., about 1 liter).

Day of procedure:

On the morning of the procedure, between 05.00-06.00, you must repeat the steps according to the instructions for the evening before:

  • The contents of the second bottle of Esiclene should be poured into the supplied measuring cup and diluted with water to the mark (i.e. to a volume of 0.5 l).
  • Over the next two hours, the patient should drink the resulting solution and an additional two measuring glasses of water or clear liquid (i.e., about 1 liter).

The full volume of the diluted Esiclene solution and an additional amount of water or clear liquid should be completed at least 2 hours and no later than 4 hours before the start of the procedure.

2 One-step application mode

(application mode for use depending on the individual needs of the patient)

Day before the procedure:

The evening before the procedure (for example, at 18:00):

  • The contents of one bottle of Esiclene should be poured into the supplied measuring cup and diluted with water to the mark (i.e. to a volume of 0.5 l).
  • Over the next two hours, the patient should drink the resulting solution and an additional two measuring glasses of water or clear liquid (i.e., about 1 liter).

Approximately 2 hours after starting the first dose:

  • The contents of the second bottle of Esiclene should be poured into the supplied measuring cup and diluted with water to the mark (i.e. to a volume of 0.5 l).
  • Over the next two hours, the patient should drink the resulting solution and an additional two measuring glasses of water or clear liquid (i.e., about 1 liter).

Medications for colon cleansing

The human intestine is not just an organ into which the food we eat goes. Substances necessary for normal digestion, hematopoiesis, and maintaining immune defense are synthesized here. And when mucus, feces or pus stick to the intestinal walls, which is inevitable given our character and quality of nutrition, uncontrolled use of medications and chronic stress, they, along with food, begin to be absorbed into the blood and the whole body suffers. This is manifested by deterioration of the skin condition, frequent colds, unpleasant body odor, hair loss, deterioration of general immunity and a constant desire to rest.

These symptoms can be prevented or treated by periodically taking medications to cleanse the intestines of toxins. There are not many types of them: these can be salt or oil preparations, syrups or solutions with high osmolarity. The drug is selected individually, based on a person’s sensitivity to its components and the state of intestinal tone and motility. What suits most people will not necessarily be well received by you, so in some cases you may need to go through 3-4 products before you find your remedy for cleansing the intestines. We will consider the main medications in order from the most positive reviews to the least.

Groups of drugs that cleanse the digestive canal

Medications for colon cleansing can be divided into:

  1. Drugs of the osmotic type, the structure of which does not allow them to be absorbed into the blood, but helps to pump fluid into the intestines. It washes away feces and toxins and mucus adhering to the walls of the organ. These include magnesia (magnesium sulfate), Carlsbad salt, lactulose preparations, Fortrans.
  2. Chemical laxatives. They enhance muscle contractions of the intestines, which improves the expulsion of feces from it. These are preparations containing hay grass, buckthorn, Bisacodyl, castor oil.
  3. Products based on agar-agar, bran, kelp, which simultaneously increase the volume of the intestine and stimulate its peristalsis.

Let's look at each effective medicine for cleansing the intestines of toxins.

Fortrans

Analogs of the drug - Forlax, Lavacol. The main active ingredient is macrogol 4000. The drug is produced in the form of a powder, which must be dissolved in water (in the case of Fortrans - 1 liter), and then gradually drunk. If the goal is to cleanse the intestines of toxins, an adult can drink 1-2 sachets of the drug; when it is used before X-ray, ultrasound or endoscopic examination of the abdominal organs, 3-4 packets of the drug are needed (1 packet per 20 kg of body weight).

The drug begins to work after 1-1.5 hours, when there is a pronounced urge to defecate, and when going to the toilet, liquid and mushy feces are released. This happens because macrogol molecules form strong hydrogen bonds with water molecules in which the powder is dissolved. This water washes both the small and large intestines, removing residues adhering to the walls and increasing its volume along its entire length. After this, Fortrans and water with the toxins dissolved in it are completely removed without being absorbed into the blood.

Lactulose preparations

Such a medicine for cleansing the intestines may be called Dufalak, Normaze, Lactuvit, Prelaxan and others. The essence of its action is as follows. Lactulose is a complex carbohydrate. In the stomach and small intestine it does not break down or change, since there are no enzymes there that would do this. The drug begins to work in the colon, where:

  1. breaks down to form useful organic acids, which lowers pH and has an anti-inflammatory effect;
  2. attracts water to itself, which causes increased peristalsis and the urge to defecate;
  3. inhibits the growth of proteolytic (harmful) bacteria, which reduces poisoning of the body with ammonia and other toxins;
  4. activates the growth of lactobacilli.

Senade

These are tablets based on the herb senna. Its action is to inhibit the absorption of fluid from the large intestine. This thins or softens stool and stimulates intestinal peristalsis.

Castor oil

When ingested, the oil enters the small intestine and breaks down into its individual components. The main one irritates the intestinal receptors and retains water in it, which activates its peristalsis. The laxative effect occurs after 5-6 hours.

Magnesium sulfate (magnesium)

To cleanse the intestines, the drug is available in powder form. By changing osmotic pressure, it delays the absorption of water from the intestine. This liquefies and increases the volume of intestinal masses, irritates enteroreceptors, which makes defecation easier.

In addition to being a laxative, magnesium sulfate has diuretic and choleretic effects.

During colonoscopy under sedation (intravenous anesthesia)

It is necessary to maintain a fasting period of at least 8 hours and at least 4 hours without water. On this day it is not recommended to drive a car, operate any machinery, or make important decisions. It is advisable to be met and escorted home.

When making an appointment for gastro + colonoscopy, two-stage preparation is not suitable, since the patient must come to gastroscopy on an empty stomach, not eat or DRINK!

IMPORTANT: In case of concomitant pathology of the cardiovascular system, diabetes mellitus, renal failure, preparation with MOVIPREP is more justified.

After completing the examination and receiving the results of a colonoscopy, it is recommended to consult a gastroenterologist.
