    general information

    Iberogast is recommended by the Rome IV criteria (2016) for the treatment of functional dyspepsia.
    Interest in it in Germany arose within the framework of the concept of multi-target or multi-target therapy, which involves, instead of prescribing several drugs that affect individual links in the pathogenesis of a given disease, the use of one drug that simultaneously affects several links. Iberogast normalizes accommodation of the fundus of the stomach, improves the evacuation of gastric contents, reduces visceral hypersensitivity, reduces the secretion of hydrochloric acid, and has a gastroprotective effect, improving gastric mucus formation. Conducted clinical studies and meta-analyses based on their results indicated the high effectiveness of the drug in patients with FD (especially with postprandial distress syndrome) and its good tolerability. The feasibility of using Iberogast is also determined by the frequent combination of FD with IBS, in which its administration also normalizes intestinal motility and reduces the severity of pain (Sheptulin A.A., Kurbatova A.A.). This recommendation was confirmed in 2022 by the Clinical Guidelines of the Russian Gastroenterological Association for the diagnosis and treatment of functional dyspepsia.

    How it affects the body

    Iberogast normalizes the tone of smooth muscles of all organs of the digestive system and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It does not affect peristalsis, but effectively relieves spasms. If the gastrointestinal tract has low tone, then the medicine stimulates and tones it.

    This drug is able to fight 6 subspecies of the dangerous bacterium Helicobacter pylori: it suppresses their growth. Iberogast has a beneficial effect on the stomach:

    • reduces the intensity and frequency of mucosal ulceration;
    • increases the amount of E2 (mucoprotective prostaglandin) in the mucous membrane;
    • normalizes the secretion of hydrochloric acid;
    • improves reproduction and mucin levels;
    • reduces the number of leukotrienes.

    These effects are very useful for patients suffering from gastritis and stomach ulcers. This reduces the risk of complications and the development of more severe diseases.

    The effect of Iberogast on gastritis

    The main culprit of gastritis and gastric ulcers is the bacterium H. pylori, which destroys the walls of the main organ of the gastrointestinal tract - the stomach. Due to the fact that the product contains extracts of chamomile, peppermint, cumin fruits, Iberogast has an antimicrobial effect.

    Once in the body, the drug reduces the growth of bacteria, stopping the progression of the disease. Here we can highlight the main advantage of the drug - the possibility of use when other drugs are contraindicated.

    Action for hemorrhoids and heartburn

    Heartburn can appear both in pathological conditions in the stomach and in a healthy person. It largely depends on what kind of food a person takes. Heartburn can be affected by alcohol intake, stress, and excess weight.

    For heartburn, taking Iberogast is also indicated, since after a dose of the medicine, the smooth muscles in the stomach relax and toning occurs. This leads to the fact that intra-abdominal pressure decreases and undigested stomach contents stop entering the esophagus.

    But for hemorrhoids, Iberogast is indicated only during a course of treatment with other drugs. Thanks to taking Iberogast, the patient can regulate his bowel movements, that is, eliminate dangerous constipation, which in turn aggravates the course of hemorrhoids. A doctor will help you choose a course of treatment.
