Varicose veins of the intestine in acute stages cause irreversible changes in the perianal area. Complications of hemorrhoids lead to limitation of motor activity and disturbances in the functional state of individual body systems. Deterioration in health may affect the ability to perform job duties. This also applies to the military, and it doesn’t matter whether they are professional or entering conscription. The military medical commission has the right to impose restrictions on the performance of official duties or dismiss for health reasons due to localized hemorrhoids.
Brief description of hemorrhoids
Before answering the question of whether people with hemorrhoids are accepted into the army, we will provide basic information about the disease.
Hemorrhoids occur due to disruption of venous blood flow in the perianal area. Congestion is localized in the intestinal veins, and lumps form. Due to the described degenerative changes, damage to the skin appears. Hemorrhoidal nodes also significantly increase in diameter, the metabolism of the mucous membrane of the perianal area is disrupted - thus, a progressive inflammatory focus arises.
Factors contributing to the appearance of hemorrhoids:
- lack of physical education and sports in the daily routine;
- systematic long-term sitting;
- bad habits;
- excess fatty and spicy foods in the diet;
- concomitant inflammatory diseases of the perianal area;
- lifting weights;
- chronic constipation or prolonged diarrhea; pregnancy.
It is necessary to identify the symptomatic range of the pathology in question:
- pain, burning during bowel movements;
- blood in stool;
- prolapse of hemorrhoids;
- a regular feeling that the intestines are not completely emptied;
- acute pain when sneezing, walking, or immediately after completing a bowel movement.
The presence/absence of individual symptoms depends on the current stage of the disease.
Chronic hemorrhoids
Chronic hemorrhoids can serve as a reason for exemption from conscription only if it manifests itself frequently.
If at the time of passing the commission the young man does not have prolapse of nodes and the symptoms accompanying this process, he will be drafted into the army.
Guys who have encountered similar problems, but have not sought medical attention or received treatment in a hospital setting, will also go to serve.
With a slight increase in single hemorrhoids and the absence of inflammation, the young man should be ready to serve in the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
Young people whose chronic hemorrhoids have not manifested themselves for the last three years are also subject to conscription. If the medical report received at the military registration and enlistment office states that the diagnosis was made recently, there is no bleeding or inflammation.
Severity of the disease
People with hemorrhoids are accepted into the army depending on what stage of the disease the patient has.
Here is a brief description of each degree of pathology in the form of a table:
Stage | Clinical manifestations | Symptomatic series |
First | The contours of the vessels appear unclearly on the mucous membrane of the perianal region, hemorrhoids are fixed in the area of the anal ring. | Bloody discharge, mild discomfort. |
Second | The nodes fall out during bowel movements, but return to their original position on their own. | Bleeding, mucous discharge from the anus, itching. |
Third | The nodes fall out and do not return to their original position. You need to adjust them by hand. | The same symptoms as in the second stage. The itching becomes more severe |
Fourth | Hemorrhoids fall out regularly, even if the intestines do not empty. The knots can only be straightened with medical help. | Incontinence is added to the symptoms listed above. |
Having mentioned the stages, you need to talk about common complications. Bleeding may become permanent. They can only be stopped through surgery. Hemorrhoids also provoke the appearance of anal fissures and paraproctitis - purulent inflammation of the tissues of the perianal area.
Severity of hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are a disease characterized by varicose veins and inflammation of the hemorrhoidal veins in the rectum. It is accompanied by unpleasant symptoms:
- burning sensation;
- constipation;
- painful sensations.
If the hemorrhoids are severely inflamed, the conscript can count on a deferment. There are several degrees of severity of this disease.
First degree | Hemorrhoids are small and almost invisible; they are just beginning to appear |
Second degree | Characterized by prolapse of nodes and pain |
Third degree | Prolapse of nodes occurs not only during the process of emptying the rectum, but also with minor physical exertion |
Fourth degree | Constant inflammation of the nodes with periodic bleeding. It is not uncommon for this stage of the disease to require surgery. |
The doctor decides what stage the disease is in and whether the young man can perform military service. He performs a visual examination followed by a rectal examination. The rectum is examined using a proctoscope. The conscript must be properly examined and only after that it is decided whether to send him to military service or give him a deferment.

Categories of fitness for military service depending on the degree of hemorrhoids
Military fitness categories are assigned by decision of the military medical commission (MMC). She can suspend her from service until she recovers from her illness or for life. Based on the results of the IVC, the serviceman is prescribed a therapeutic course, which the patient must undergo in medical institutions of the Ministry of Defense.
Despite the danger of the disease and its complications, hemorrhoids and the army are quite compatible. People with this disease are recruited into the army, assuming that the patient will comply with army regulations with minor restrictions.
For young men who have hemorrhoids at the 1st, 2nd or 3rd stage, the military registration and enlistment office assigns category “B” - “fit with restrictions.” It is recommended that conscripts diagnosed with hemorrhoids be recruited into troops with reduced physical activity: communications troops, automobile troops, and pipeline troops.
There is a deferment from the army for persons whose examination results indicate intestinal varicose veins in the fourth stage. The deferment is provided for 6 months; During this time, the conscript must cure hemorrhoids through surgery and undergo a recovery course.
If a conscript develops hemorrhoids during his service, the military unit’s superiors are obliged to send him to the Military Military Commission. She, in turn, sends her for surgery to one of the departmental hospitals. The time spent in the hospital is counted towards the service period. After treatment, the soldier awaits the next military medical examination, where, based on the conclusions, doctors can change the category of fitness and transfer to another branch of the military.
Relief from hemorrhoids
About a quarter of young people have hemorrhoids of varying severity. This frequency of occurrence is due to a sedentary lifestyle, alcohol abuse, and lack of fiber in food, which contributes to the occurrence of chronic constipation.
Hemorrhoids will help you get exemption from military service, but not in all cases. According to the Schedule of Military Diseases, minor pain in the anus and the presence of small nodes (stage 1) are not grounds for issuing a military ID. But if a young man is diagnosed with stage 2, 3 or 4 of the disease, then the young man will not be hired to serve immediately, because physical activity has an extremely negative effect on the further course of the disease.
Therefore, the conscript is given a deferment from military duty for six months, during which time he undergoes an additional medical examination and takes measures to eliminate hemorrhoids.
If after six months the young man’s condition has not returned to normal, he receives a deferment again. In the vast majority of cases, hemorrhoids can be eliminated with adequate treatment, after which the young man is considered fit.

If a conscript notices discomfort in the anal area and other signs of hemorrhoids, then the best solution would be to contact a good proctologist. The specialist will prescribe comprehensive diagnostics and therapy, and all exacerbations of chronic hemorrhoids will be recorded in medical documentation. It will be useful later at the military registration and enlistment office; all the papers will need to be presented to the doctor during the examination.
The suitability of a conscript diagnosed with Hemorrhoids depends on the stage of the disease and its course. It is also important how much the patient complies with all the treatment recommendations given to him, because if he does not want to go into the army, he will deliberately ignore all treatment. As a result, the disease progresses.

After surgical treatment of hemorrhoids, the young man can receive fitness category B (fit with restrictions). Surgical elimination of pathology is used at stages 2-4 and is very effective, so the young man can be considered suitable for military service.
Features of military service for patients with hemorrhoids
Young people who were assigned a fitness category based on a diagnosis of hemorrhoids end up in military units with less physical activity. For such soldiers, the number of hours of drill training has been reduced. Also, on an individual basis, they can be exempted from guard duty and company squads (the latter can be replaced by park squads, headquarters or checkpoint squads).
Military personnel with the described diagnosis are allowed to take part in public sports events with minor restrictions: weightlifting and kettlebell lifting are excluded.
Why do hemorrhoids worsen in the army?
There are many reasons for exacerbation of hemorrhoids during military service. Among them it should be noted:
- Presence of asymptomatic hemorrhoids,
- Intestinal dysfunctions,
- Incorrect forced physical training.
To avoid such unpleasant problems with the rectum, if you have minor symptoms of hemorrhoids, you should undergo treatment from a proctologist before conscription.
Symptoms that should lead you to believe that you have hemorrhoids include:
- Itching in the anus, constant or periodic,
- Burning during and after bowel movements,
- Discomfort in the anus
- Bloody discharge from the anus in any quantity.
Particular attention should be paid to nutrition. Food should be fresh and healthy. The menu should contain enough foods containing fiber and water. Don't forget about hand hygiene. This will ensure the smooth functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, relieve digestive disorders and, therefore, avoid exacerbations of hemorrhoids. It is impossible to do without physical activity in the army. It should be noted that the right approach to training can significantly reduce the risk of exacerbation of hemorrhoids. Thus, endurance training and hardening procedures have a beneficial effect on the dynamics of the disease, providing a general strengthening and tonic effect on the body. However, excessive physical exertion should be avoided, especially in the absence of special training.
